{Blog} Lit’s impact in 2023-24

August 15, 2024

It’s an annual tradition at Adelante Schools in Indianapolis, IN.

When the results of the statewide reading assessment, IREAD-3, are released, passing students head to the front office to call their families and share the news. This year, the most students in school history lined up to make the calls after the school saw an 18.2% year-over-year increase in the number of passing third graders. After hearing from her daughter that she passed the assessment, one mom fell silent. After a few moments’ pause, she told a teacher through tears:

“My students have been at that school for years. Not a single one of them has passed.

And. She. Just. Did.”

The success stories don’t end there. If Adelante’s Kindergarten DIBELS scores are any indication, even more families will be picking up the phone in coming years. DIBELS is a universal screener that measures the development of key foundational literacy skills over time. In their fourth year partnering with Lit, Adelante saw remarkable progress. At the start of the year, 10% of Kindergarten students tested at or above benchmark. By the end? 83%.

The Adelante story is just one of many that we are celebrating as the 2023-24 school year closes. You can read more about Lit’s impact in our 2023-24 Impact Summary by clicking here.
